Meeting notes

Meeting notes on your Mac, without a bot.

Lipik records your side and the other side of a call on your Mac, then writes a transcript and a short summary. Nobody new joins the meeting.

Free and open source. Needs macOS 14.2 or later.

How it records

Some note-taking tools add a bot to your call as an extra participant. Lipik doesn't. It listens on your Mac and records two things, kept apart:

  • your microphone, for what you say
  • your Mac's sound, for what the other people say

Because the two are kept apart, the transcript shows who said what. Your microphone is you. Lipik splits the Mac's sound into speakers: Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. When there's clear evidence, such as someone introducing themselves or being addressed by name, it uses their name instead. Lipik records the Mac's sound rather than a call app, so it works with any call you can hear on your Mac.

Name the speakers

Click a speaker's name to rename them. The new name is used everywhere in that meeting, and Lipik recognises that voice in later meetings. Saved voices stay on your Mac. They are removed with their meeting, and you can forget all of them in Settings, under Privacy.

Speaker labels need a speaker model, a one-time 33 MB download from Hugging Face. On calls over 3 hours, the other side stays as a single "Them".

Transcript and summary, made on your Mac

Lipik writes the transcript with its own speech model, on your Mac. Then it writes a short summary of the meeting, with the decisions and the next steps. You can add your own notes to each meeting, and ask questions about past meetings.

The summary and questions use Lipik's built-in clean-up model, which also runs on your Mac. No other app is needed. One button in setup, or in Settings under Meetings, downloads it from Hugging Face: Qwen3 8B (5 GB) on Macs with 16 GB of memory or more, or Qwen3 4B Instruct (2.5 GB) on smaller Macs. Without it, you still get the transcript, and you can write the summary later once the model is downloaded.

Ask your AI apps about a meeting

New in Lipik 0.1.2: AI apps on your Mac can read your meeting notes through MCP, a standard way for AI apps to use tools. This works with Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, VS Code and Gemini CLI.

Access is read-only. The apps can list, search and read your meeting notes, but they can't change anything, and they can't see your dictations.

  1. Connect your apps in Lipik's Settings, under AI apps.
  2. Open a note and choose Copy link for AI apps from its menu.
  3. Paste the link into a connected app and ask about the meeting.

ChatGPT can't run tools on your Mac. For ChatGPT, choose Copy as Markdown from the same menu and paste the note in. Keep in mind that an AI app may send what it reads to its own servers.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later)
  • macOS 14.2 or later, to record the Mac's sound
  • One-time downloads from Hugging Face: the speech model (731 MB), the clean-up model for the summary (2.5 or 5 GB) and the speaker model (33 MB)

What goes online

  • the one-time downloads above, from Hugging Face
  • Apple's English (India) speech files, through macOS, for Hinglish dictation only
  • once a day, a check with GitHub for the latest version number, to show a "new version" notice. It carries nothing about you, and you can turn it off in Settings, under Privacy, then Updates.
  • every few hours, an anonymous count so we know how many people use Lipik: a random ID, the app version and the macOS version. Never your voice, text or name. Turn it off in Settings, under Privacy, then Usage count.
  • your email, only if you type it during setup to hear about new versions
  • cloud clean-up, only if you add your own API key

There is no account, and your recordings, transcripts and notes never leave your Mac.

Questions

Does a bot join the call?

No. Lipik records on your Mac, from your microphone and your Mac's sound. Nobody new joins the meeting.

Where are my notes kept?

On your Mac. The transcript and summary are made and saved on your Mac, and so are saved speaker voices. Lipik has no account, and your notes never leave your Mac.

Do I need Ollama?

No. Clean-up is built into Lipik, so the summary and questions about past meetings work without any other app. Ollama is an optional choice for advanced users, in Settings. If you already use Ollama with Lipik, it keeps using it.

Which macOS version do I need?

macOS 14.2 or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later).

Can ChatGPT read my meeting notes?

Not directly. ChatGPT can't run tools on your Mac. Open the note, choose Copy as Markdown from its menu, and paste it into ChatGPT.

Should I tell people I'm recording?

Yes. Because no bot joins, nobody is told about the recording automatically. Ask before you record; in many places the law requires it.
